Surgical Assisting Graduate Certificate Information

Admission
Requirements for admission include:
- Two letters of recommendation
- A personal statement
- Official transcripts of all coursework conferring certificate or degree in Surgical technology. GradCAS only accepts electronic transcripts from:
- Current association membership in one of the following:
- Certified Surgical Technologists (CST)
- Certificate Nurse - Operating Room (CNOR)
- Surgical Assistant - Certified (SA-C)
- Practicing Surgical Assistants holding credentials of SA-C must submit 12 months case logs
Additional Requirements for Foreign Medical Graduates
Applicants are who are foreign medical graduates with a Surgical Assistant - Certified (SA-C) and/or individuals with a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) must provide proof of current membership status by their association, 12 months of case logs, and a signed testament from their employer allowing the candidate to train at their facility(ies). Applicants who are Surgical Technologist must be a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), earned at least an Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology from an accredited program, two years of work experience as a CST and a signed testament from their employer allowing the candidate to train at their facility(ies).
Applicants must possess a problem-solving/self-directed learning approach to education. Other admission criteria includes:
- United States citizenship or proof of permanent U.S. residence.
- Candidates are expected to be in good health to withstand the rigors of the program and to strictly adhere to all rules and regulations of EVMS, as well as those of the clinical facilities where they will receive training.
