Degree-Seeking Application Requirements


  1. Application and Fees: Applicants must electronically submit a completed CAS Application and the appropriate non-refundable application fee. The CAS Applications are online and available via each program homepage. These can be found on the Admissions website. The application fees for each CAS System are as follows:
  • AMCAS Fees and Waivers: AMCAS charges $170 for the first program you apply to and $40 for each additional program. For more information about application fees and fee waivers please review information provided on the fee assistance program webpage.
  • CASPA Fees and Waivers: CASPA charges $179 for the first program you apply to and $55 for each additional program. For more information about application fees and fee waivers please review information provided on the CASPA application fees webpage.
  • GradCAS Fees and Waivers: GradCAS charges $125 for EVMS programs. The Admissions & Enrollment Office may provide coupons that offset the application fees on a case-by-case basis. Fee waiver requests must be requested to the program before Admissions & Enrollment will send out a coupon code.
  • PostbacCAS Fees and Waivers: PostBacCAS charges $135 for the first program you apply to and $50 for each additional program. For more information about application fees and fee waivers please review information provided on the Postbac CAS Fees and Waivers webpage.
  1. Supplemental Applications: The Doctor of Medicine is the only program that requires a $100 supplemental application fee. The admissions office will review primary applications and qualified applicants will be notified via email to submit a supplemental application.
  2. Official Transcripts: Applicants must submit all official transcripts for all institutions attended to the CAS systems. Degree awarding transcripts must indicate the date the degree was conferred. Transcripts with in-progress grades must be resubmitted once the grades have finally posted.
  3. Grade Point Average: All degree-seeking, certificate, and non-degree applicants must have a baccalaureate degree and or graduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university and meet the program minimum grade point average (GPA) on a 4.00 scale. Applicants who do not meet the minimum program GPA requirement may be considered on a case-by-case basis by the program director.
  4. Academic and Professional References: Degree-seeking applicants are required to provide two letters of recommendation except for the following programs which require three letters of recommendation - Biomedical Sciences, Ph.D., Doctor of Medicine, Reproductive Clinical Sciences, Ph.D., Pathologists’ Assistant, and Physician Assistant. The letters of recommendation and or forms must be completed by faculty at colleges attended by the applicant who are familiar with the student’s academic and research capabilities, and who are persons qualified to judge (e.g., supervisor) the applicant’s potential to complete the graduate program successfully. References from close friends and family members are unacceptable. Premedical Advisory Committee letters and Interfolio letters are also accepted. The letters of recommendation are part of the electronic application and may vary by the CAS system. If a recommendation form is submitted in paper form, it must be received by the Admissions & Enrollment Office in a sealed envelope with the recommender’s signature written across the envelope flap. The Admissions & Enrollment Office may accept letters of recommendation for the School of Health Professions via email at hpadmissions@evms.edu. Graduate Certificate applicants are not required to submit letters of recommendation.
  5. Prerequisite Courses: Specific programs require prerequisite courses be completed prior to enrolling in the program. Applicants are encouraged to review the prerequisite requirements on the program of interest homepage.
  6. Personal Statement: Applicants are required to submit a personal statement with their application about their interest and future goals. Applicants are encouraged to review the personal statement requirements before applying.
  7. Resume: For some programs, a resume or curriculum vitae may be required.
